Strength Training: How important is it along with Running?

If you’re only running and not doing anything else, you may be putting yourself at risk for several kinds of injuries. Runners often prefer to run and do nothing else. Stretching they may do if motivated by a coach or peer runner, or understood from a prior injury that stretching is an important aspect of running. However, strength training is something a lot of runners avoid. Maybe because they think strength training is just to bulk up, and as a runner, they need to remain lean.

But the fact is that the stronger you get, the more resilient your body will become to fulfill the demands of running. Strength training can improve structural weaknesses in your body and this will eliminate the source of many running injuries. Strengthening the hips, glutes, and core is the best preventive measure a runner can take. Believe it or not strength training will also help you run faster!
